Player Character Respec

Respec allows a player to adjust a pre-existing player character to correct a mistake in design from early development or to make a change that would allow that character to be more fun to play. A respec allows you to change most choices in a character, but your character's name, species, and class must remain the same.

Not a Rebuild

Respecs are not a method to completely make a new character at your current level. Your character's identity should remain intact.

Level Thresholds

  • Levels 1–3: a player may adjust their character's features as much as they like until that character reaches Level 4.
  • At Level 6 every character gets One Free Respec which may be kept and used at a later level.

In-Party Adjustments

Follow the rules below for what can and can not be respec'ed. Often we don't see a mistake until we are at the table. This will help players new and old make adjustments in the early levels.

What Can Be Changed

With a respec you can change:

  • Ability Scores
  • ASI
  • Backgrounds
  • Multi-Class Levels
  • Feats
  • Languages
  • Skills
  • Subclasses

What Cannot Be Changed

You can not change:

  • Species
  • Class
  • (Wizard) Spellbooks

Respecing when Multiclassed

You can change levels in a multiclass or remove the extra class. You cannot change or remove your Primary class and your multiclass level can not match or exceed your primary class level.

Your primary class is the class with the highest level. If both classes are of the same level at time of respec, you can choose either to be your primary class.
